Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 213 George A. HUBBARD, of Guildhall [Essex County, Vermont], was born 10 September 1850, son of John and Susan D. HUBBARD. At the age of seven he removed to Lunenburg [Essex County] to attend the common schools of that place. Her he remained until he was seventeen, at which time he returned to Guildhall and completed his education at the Essex County grammar school. For many years Mr. HUBBARD made his residence at the place of his birth, and for most of that period was employed in farming, but after his marriage he removed to the home of his wife, where he remained until 1892, when his position of county clerk required his immediate presence at the county seat. Mr. HUBBARD is an active Republican, and has been selectman for five consecutive terms; has also been town superintendent; was elected to represent Guildhall in the Legislature of 1890. He is a quiet, self-respecting man of good moral principles, and give promise of a long career of usefulness. He has been a member of the Patrons of Husbandry at Guildhall. On 13 October 1871 at Lunenburg [Essex County, Vermont] he [George A. HUBBARD] was united in marriage to Ida M., daughter of Lorenzo and Ann (WOODS) MANNING, of Guildhall. One son was born to them and died in infancy. One daughter, Addie Manning [HUBBARD], and an adopted child, Ethel May, are living. 2nd Biography of George A. Educated in the public schools of Guildhall and Lunenburg [Essex County], and Essex Co. Grammar School. In 1869 he purchased a farm in Guildhall, which he carried on until Oct 1892, when he received the appointment of county clerk, which office he holds to the present time. Republican; has held various town offices. In religious belief a Methodist. Member and treasurer of Benton Lodge No. 88, Free & Accepted Masons; and member of Grange. In 1871 [George A. HUBBARD] married [Miss?] Ida MANNING of Guildhall [Essex County, Vermont]; they have one daughter, Addie M., and an adopted daughter, Ethel May KANE.
