Essex HEYWOOD, Henry, William & William Henry Biographical Notes on William & Henry HEYWOOD Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 1008 (extracted from a section on the history of Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont) William HEYWOOD, a native of Concord [Essex County, Vermont], removed to Guildhall [Essex County, Vermont] about 1836, and continued to reside here about twenty years. Esteemed a very sound, thorough and highly respectable lawyer; had an extensive practice; State's Attorney a good number of years; judge of probate for 1845; several times a candidate for the Vermont Legislature, and only failed of repeated election due to party to which he belonged being in the minority. Removed from Guildhall; residing at Lancaster [Coos County], New Hampshire, but still practices at the bar of this [Essex] County. Henry HEYWOOD [born 06 December 1835 at Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont], son of Hon. William HEYWOOD, is the only practicing attorney at present in town [Guildhall], a highly respectable young man, and bids fair to follow in the footsteps of his father; elected State's attorney for the coming year. Was employed in Boston, Massachusetts by the C. & C. Electric Company; Smith Premier Typewriter Company; was president of Congo Blacking Manufacturing Company; was president and treasurer of Brattleboro Overall Company; presently proprietor of C. H. Eddy Company. Independent in politics. Vestryman of Protestant Episcopal Church. Past high priest of Fort Dumming Chapter No. 12, Royal Arch Masons; member Brattleboro Lodge No. 102, Free & Accepted Masons; Connecticut Valley Council No. 16, Royal & Select Masons; Beauseant Commandery No. 7, Knights Templar; Brigham Chapter No. 30, Order of Eastern Star; Mount Sinai Temple, Mystic Shrine; and Protective Grange No. 22. In 1892 Mr. [William Henry] HEYWOOD married [Miss?] Jeanette May SYLVESTER of Boston [Suffolk County], Massachusetts; they have three sons: William Henry, Edward Lester, and Francis Herman.
