HALE, of Lunenberg [Lunenburg, Essex County, Vermont], was born 07 March 1854 in Barnet [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of Sprague T. and Nancy M. (MOULTON) HALE. He alternately attended school and worked upon the farm, receiving his preparatory instruction at the common schools of Concord [Essex County, Vermont], and after continuing his studies at the high school of Northfield [Washington County, Vermont] and at St. Johnsbury Academy [Caledonia County, Vermont], finally graduated in the law department of Michigan University in 1877. After being admitted to the bar, Mr. HALE became a member of the firm of Hutchinson, Savage & Hale, at Lewiston [Androscoggin County], Maine, and some time afterwards spent two years in traveling in the western states. In 1881 he settled in Lunenberg [Lunenburg] as a lawyer, and also engaged in farming, and here he has continued to reside. The usual town offices have been entrusted to him. In 1884 he was representative and in 1886 senator from Essex County in the state Legislature, elected by Republican votes; was state's attorney from 1883 to 1888; in 1892 was elected auditor of accounts of the state of Vermont; and received the appointment of town site trustee in Oklahoma Territory in 1891. Belongs to the Masonic fraternity; member of Knights of Honor. Member of the Congregational church. On 02 November 1881 Mr. [Franklin D.] HALE was married to Addie L., daughter of Hon.
