Essex GREEN, Edwin Canaan Encyclopedia Vermont Biography: A Series of Authentic Biographical Sketches of the Representative Men of Vermont and Sons of Vermont in Other States. Dodge. Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 205 Edwin Canaan GREEN, real estate and deputy sheriff, Canaan [Essex County, Vermont], was born 08 November 1856 at Warren [Washington County, Vermont], son of Charles and Eliza A. (BROOKS) GREEN. Educated in the public schools of Canaan. Was engaged in the lumber business with his father until 1877, when he opened a meat and grocery store in Holbrook [Norfolk County], New Hampshire, which he conducted four years. In 1881 he returned to Canaan and engaged in the lumber business until 1888, when he went into the general merchandising business. Since 1904 has been engaged in real estate. Republican; represented Canaan in the Vermont Legislature in 1896; was appointed deputy sheriff in April 1911, and has held various town offices. An attendant of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Member of the order of Masons, Eastern Star, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Grange, and the Foresters. [Attending the Methodist Episcopal Church and belonging to the Foresters is not conflicting, since there were several Forester Orders, e. g., the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Independent Order of Foresters, Foresters of America, and others. Mr. GREEN was likely a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.] In 1908 he [Edwin Canaan GREEN] married [Miss?] Cora V. STAPLES of Manchester [Hillsborough County], New Hampshire.
