FLANDERS, educator and farmer, Brunswick [Essex County, Vermont], was born 15 February 1867 at Stewartstown [Coos County], New Hampshire, son of Joseph W. and Ann (BLODGETT) FLANDERS. Educated in the public schools, Lancaster Academy [Coos County], New Hampshire, and Dartmouth College, class of 1892. After graduating from college Mr. FLANDERS was engaged in teaching; was principal at Watson Academy, Epping [Rockingham County], New Hampshire, four years; taught at Groveton [Coos County], New Hampshire, four years; and principal Canaan High School [Essex County, Vermont] three years. In 1907-1908 built what was know as the Essex and Coos Telephone Line, which he sold in 1910 to the Bell Telephone Company. In 1900 he purchased a farm in Brunswick, where he has since resided. Democrat; has held all the town offices; is at present town clerk, first selectman, school director and justice of the peace; represented Brunswick in the Vermont Legislature 1908. Member of the Unitarian Church of Lancaster [Coos County], New Hampshire. Member of the Knights of Pythias; lecturer in the Grange, and a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at college.
