CUTTING, of West Concord [Essex County, Vermont], was born 12 September 1837 in Concord [Essex County, Vermont], son of Franklin and Prudence (ISHAM) CUTTING. Mr. CUTTING was brought up a farmer, receiving his education at the common and high schools in Concord [Essex County] and Waterford [Caledonia County, Vermont. Note the second biography states he was educated in Concord and Waterbury, not Concord and Waterford.] At nineteen years of age he commenced teaching in the winter and working in the summer on the farm. In 1868 he began business as a druggist and book dealer, to which occupation he still devotes himself. [Note the second biography states Mr. CUTTING began this work at age nineteen; in 1868 he would have been about thirty-one. Both biographies may be partially correct, as he could have begun the work before his Civil War service and resumed it afterward.] Mr. CUTTING has been appointed local agent for the Vermont Mutual Fire Insurance Company. On 20 August 1864 he enlisted as a private in the Union army; was wounded at the battle of Cedar Creek, 19 October 1864, and discharged from the hospital in May 1865. He [Oliver B. CUTTING] was first married 23 February 1865 to Lavina, daughter of Russell and Louisa POWERS. One child, Ursula M., was born to them; his wife [Lavina CUTTING] died 03 May 1868. He contracted a second marriage with [Miss] Lois B., daughter of Austin and Abigail ROBINSON, 07 February 1872. They have two children: Clarence F. and Susie L. Mr. CUTTING is a Republican; was appointed postmaster in 1877, and held that office eight years. He is a Master Mason and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. 2nd Biography of Oliver B.
