ADAMS, merchant and postmaster, Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont, was born 27 November 1854 in Concord, Essex County, Vermont, son of Horace and Emily (CARPENTER) ADAMS. He was educated in the public schools of Concord and Maidstone. He moved from Concord to Maidstone, Essex County [Vermont] with his parents in 1869, and remained on the home farm at Maidstone until 1880. That summer he worked on another farm. From then until November 1885 he was employed at a saw mill in Guildhall, Essex County [Vermont]. He then returned to the home farm, remaining there until 1902, when he sold the farm and purchased a small farm in Guildhall, and in 1909 a store in Guildhall. He received the appointment of Postmaster in 1910. Republican; has been Town Clerk and Treasurer three years, Justice of the Peace nine years, County Treasurer five years, Probation Officer five years, and has held various other town offices; Congregationalist; is Secretary of Benton Lodge No. 88, Free & Accepted Masons, and a member of the Grange.
