Levi G McKnight had married Catherine H. P. Elliott in Hartford, CT. From what I learned was that he was born in Ellington, CT, and could have met his wife in Beverly, MA. They also had two sons, Gilbert E., who was born in 1869 and died 1870. His other son was Elliot J., who was born in 1879. I don't know who Elliot J. had married, but he did inherit his father's business. Elliot J. McKnight had a son, Frank L., who had become the president and treasurer of the company. The company itself had done important defense work for the government during World War II. Hope that this information will help with the research, and thank you very much.

I am looking for information concerning Levi G. McKnight, born 1843 and died 1916. He had married Caroline H. P. Elliott, born 1841 and died 1914. He moved to Gardner, Massachusetts, and had served during the American Civil War. He later formed the McKnight Machinery Works company here in Gardner, and had become one of the most famous industries in Gardner. I would like to know what the genealogy is on his family, as I have been compiling a comprehensive study on the families of Gardner, MA. I am also a member of the local historical commission, and am undertaking a project in which to re-write the last History of Gardner, MA, by William D. Herrick, published in 1878. Thank you very much and wish to be hearing from you soon.

I found your name as a researcher of the surname WHITE at the Ellington, Connecticut Genealogy Surname Page. I have a Tacy/Tacey/Tracy/Casey, Lacey WHITE born about 1769 who married John STEBBINS 30 Nov 1799. John STEBBINS was from Wilbraham, Hampden, Massachusetts but I find him on the 1820 and 1830 Census in Ellington, Tolland, CT. After John dies, I find Tacy on the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Census in Vernon, Tolland, CT. Do you know anything about this individual or which family might be hers? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I visited an Ellington cemetery many years ago and saw that Ellington was the home of MANY McKinneys. I'm looking for the birth, marriage and death dates of Erastus Mckinney. He married Betsey White (1787-1836) in Manchester, Ct. Two sons, Henry( 1810-1847)and John (1812- 1845), were born in Manchester as well. All three died early of consumption,, and this may have been the fate of Erastus as well. I've been told that he was the son of James and Margaret, buried in Ellington, but have no proof. I've been looking for this information for many years with no results. I hope you can help me, and will be truly grateful.

I am looking for information on the Native American ancestry in my family, and looking for information on a man by the name of Indian White, who lived on the North End of Shnipsit Lake, which I believe may have been on the Ellington side of the Snip. I was told that my Great Grandmother, Lucelia Dimmock, worked for Indian White. I believe there is a possibility that Indian White is my Grandfather, Ernest Dimmock (of Tolland, born in Ellington) biological father, born in 1884. I would appreciate any information about Indian White, and any Native American tribes that lived in the area at that time. Blessings.

On various US Censuses and 1903 NJ Death Certificate my g-g-grandfather, Daniel Somers Lacy, claims birthplace as CT and birth date as Oct. 1815.  In 1820 census for Ellington there is listing for household of Erastus Lacy as having two sons under age of 10.  Can someone please confirm that my Daniel Somers Lacy is one of those sons or, conversely, that he definitely is not ?  Thank you so much.

Seeking birth parents of Daniel Somers (or Summers or Sommers) LACY, b. Oct/Nov. 1815 in CT according to NJ death certificate.  Age at time of death (Aug. 23, 1903) was 87 yrs., 10 mos. which places birth in Oct/Nov 1815.  In 1820 census there is an Erastus LACY living in Ellington, Tolland Co, CT who listed a son "under the age of 10 yrs" which would fit with an 1815 birth date.  Would greatly appreciate lookup of this birth.

What other cemeteries are there beside the Crystal Lake Cemetery? My gr gr grandfather was a Leverett Buckland living in 1850 in Buffalo NY but born in CT and by his age, born ca 1797. There are two possibilities, Leverett the son of Jonathan and Laura, or Leverett the son of Walter and Elizabeth. Dr. Joel CARPENTER who died 1789 and Hannan RUGGLES who died 1799 went to Ellington, CT about 1765 where he practiced medicine. They died and are buried in Ellington. Among several children they had a son Levi CARPENTER who married Hannah KEYES about 1795 in Ashford, CT. Another son was Dr. Ruggles CARPENTER who married Julianna PIERCE 15 Oct 1799 in Ellington. This latter family went to DeRuyter, Madison co., NY where Dr. Ruggles CARPENTER died in 1836.

I am particularly interest in corresponding with someone related to either of these two brothers. I am also interested in learning the parents of Hannah KEYES. I have descendants of the first family I can share.

I came to Ellington at age 4 in 1969 and graduated from Ellington High School in 1983. I returned again, after a brief stint in the Air Force, in 1986 I stayed until Pratt & Whitney transferred me to Jupiter Florida in 1989. I would have liked to stay, but circumstances would not allow it. Although I must say that when I visited in 2000 things had most certainly changed. The cows didn't out number the people anymore and the roads were packed. Anyway, I would like to know the populations of the years I lived in Ellington and the number of students who attended the schools that I did. Center Elementary, Longview Jr High and Ellington High School. I'm in the process of writing something and would like to include some of this info. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My grandmother was born in Ellington, CT in the mid-to-late 1920s.  She was born to John Krawiec and Anna Crouse.  The problem I have found is that her parents died within a few years of her birth and she has very little information on them.  Her parents were most likely immigrants from Russia/Poland/Ukraine/Germany (based on physical attributes of my grandmother and last names).  My grandmother's birth name is Katryna Krawiec, but somewhere along the line this become Catherine Crouse.  After her parents death, she was in an orphanage for awhile and then was raised by her siblings from her mother's previous marriage.  If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

DERBY / LOCKWOOD / MOULTON / FOGIL

I have been trying to find the parentage of Elizabeth DERBY LOCKWOOD.  Her daughter's death certificate gives Elizabeth DERBY's place of birth as Willington, Tolland Co., CT, but she cannot be found there.  I have recently been told that a DERBY family lived in Ellington.  Perhaps the death cert. informant got it wrong.  Below is a brief synopsis of this family.  Can anyone place the mother for me?

Elizabeth DERBY

...was born c1798 in Willington, Tolland Co., CT. She married Timothy LOCKWOOD.  He was born c1792 in Belchertown, Hampshire Co., MA.  He was a farmer in Gilead, Tolland Co, CT, and his parentage is unknown as yet.

Only known child of Elizabeth DERBY and Timothy LOCKWOOD is:

i. Cornelia W. LOCKWOOD, b. 9 May 1836, Gilead, Tolland Co., CT; d. 28 August 1898, Hebron, Tolland Co., CT; m. (1) Lyman MOULTON, 1 April 1855, Andover, Tolland Co., CT (4 children); m. (2) John Michael FOGIL, c1868, Gilead, Tolland Co., CT (3 children).  One record has Cornelia listed as Wealthy C. LOCKWOOD.

I'd love to hear from anyone else researching these families.  Thanks.

I am looking for any information on Joseph ATWOOD and Mary DERBY - ggrandparents. They had a son, Alfred Atwood, that was born in Galveston, Texas in 1881. The 1900 census of Ellington Town has the BOSLEY family listed. Alfred ATWOOD married Ruth BOSLEY about 1914. Ruth was my grandmother; After they married they are listed in a 1920 census in Springfield, MA with two children born in 1916 and 1918.

Ruth BOSLEY's father and mother, Greggary and Julia Ann DESSO BOSLEY both died in 1907 in Somers, CT and are buried in West Cemetery. Would very much appreciate any information on any one in this listing. Thank you.

I am trying to locate the burial place of one of my great grandfathers, named Dr. Joel Carpenter. He was born August 11, 1731 in Swansea, MA and died January 25, 1789 in Ellington, CT. He married Mary Ruggles who is also buried in Ellington, CT. He served as a physician in the American Revolution. Any information would be appreciated.

I'm looking for any information regarding George Keeny of Ellington, who married Lydia Robertson of Coventry in Nov. 1791. I believe he was born in Newport, RI, but migrated to Ellington after the Revolution. Any information will be appreciated. I'm especially interested in children of this union.

I am looking for the birth record for Orrin/Orin CUSHMAN. His mother was Amelia Belandy LADD. Tolland vitals showed she married Isreal CUSHMAN in 1838. No record of Orin appears. According to military records he said he did not know his parents. But...the 1850 census show Isreal, Amelia, with other children along with Orin as living in Stafford Springs possibly with a brother of Israel. Orin's death record shows his mother as Amelia Belandy LADD and his father as Ezra! I would appreciate anything. I know CUSHMAN's lived in Ellington. That is why I am inquiring here.

GREATON: I am looking for a birth record for Lee GREATON, born circa 1793. I believe that he was the son of Nathan GREATON, who appears in the 1800 census in Ellington, CT, with four kids and a wife. Does anyone know about the GREATONs, or have a suggestion for where I might look? They moved out of Ellington to Wilbraham, MA a few years after 1800 (appearing on the 1810 census there). Thanks.

I am looking for Francis R. HALL, b. 1813 in CT, my great-grandfather. In 1839 he was in Stark County, OH and married Hannah PHILLIPS. They lived in Columbus, OH during the 1840's and 1850's and started a family of 10 children: Harriet, Henry B., Catherine L., Hannah F., Josephine, William F., Clark B., Charles Burr, Grace, and Lilly May (my grandmother). I have developed one lead in the Ellington Congregational Church records showing a Francis HALL, son of John HALL, baptized in 1814. Would appreciate any help in securing more information about this Francis HALL. Was he Francis R. HALL? Thanks.
