WI BIO - Eau Claire Co - ZIMMERMAN, Joseph C. History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, vol I, p 342 Joseph C. ZIMMERMAN, barber, was born in Switzerland on 22 November 1846, a son of Joseph and Agnes (DARMS) ZIMMERMAN, who came with their family to Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wisconsin, when Joseph was an infant of only eleven months. [Assuming the given birthdate is correct, Joseph C. ZIMMERMAN would have been eleven months old from 22 October to 22 November 1847.] They lived in Sauk County four years, then removed to La Crosse County [Wisconsin], being among the pioneers of that locality. Joseph C. ZIMMERMAN went to Minnesota in 1865. A year later, 1866, he entered the Fourth Regular Infantry, United States Army, as a musician, and served three years, being stationed at Ft. Laramie [Goshen County, Wyoming; closed in 1890] a considerable amount of the time [Red Cloud's War was fought in that area 1866 to 1868], also at Ft. Sedgwick [near Julesburg, Sedgwick County, Colorado] for a while. In 1870 he [Joseph C. ZIMMERMAN] returned to Wisconsin, and resided at Tomah [Monroe County, Wisconsin] until 1871, when he came to Augusta [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin]. He has worked at his present business for twelve years. In September 1875 he [Joseph C. ZIMMERMAN] was married in Osseo [Trempealeau County], Wisconsin to Nettie DAY. She was born in Massena, St. Lawrence County, New York. They [Joseph C. and Nettie ZIMMERMAN] have one child, Agnes M., who was born 23 August 1876. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
