WILLARD was born 21 October 1843 in Jamestown, Chautauqua County, New York, and lived there until the summer of 1866, when he went to Detroit [Wayne County, Michigan], and in a short time to Galesburg [Knox County], Illinois, where he remained until he came to Eau Claire [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin]. He worked for N. SHAW for nearly two years. He has worked at his trade since he was nineteen years old. Mr. WILLARD came to Eau Claire in May 1867, and worked at his trade, that of machinist, until 1870, when he became engineer of W. F. Bailey Fire Engine, Fire Company No. 1. On 13 November 1872 he [W. H. WILLARD] was married at Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to Julia DE YARMAN [a maiden name?], who was born near that place. They [W. H. and Julia WILLARD] have one daughter, Jessie D., born 23 October 1874. Mr. [W. H.] WILLARD is a member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
