WILKINS, lumber and logs, Eau Claire [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin], was born in 1824 in Allegany County, New York, and was married there in 1845 to Lorenda J. SHINGLER, who was born in Ulysses [Tompkins County], New York. The children [of Edwin C. and Lorenda J. (SHINGLER) WILKINS] are: (1) Mary Alice, now Mrs. J. B. STOCKING; and (2) Isabella S., now Mrs. S. CLEMMENS). Edwin C. WILKINS came to Wisconsin in 1853 and located near Portage [Columbia County]. He engaged in farming there [Portage] for one year, and [farmed] in Adams County [Wisconsin] for two years. He came to Eau Claire in 1856, and engaged in rafting on the [Chippewa] river, and was a raft pilot for nine years. Since then he has been employed in the woods.
