WILCOX, County Treasurer, Eau Claire [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin], came to Madison [Dane County, Wisconsin] in 1855, and went from there to Eau Claire, 08 March 1856, where he has since resided. He built the first planing mill, sash, door, and blind factory here [Eau Claire] in the fall of 1857 and winter of 1857-1858. He was in partnership with J. B. RANDALL for two years, and they then sold out. Afterward Mr. [Sylvanus H.] WILCOX continued in the building and jobbing business until within the last six or seven years. Since then he has been engaged in insurance and real estate. He was elected County Treasurer in 1878, and re-elected in 1880. He [Sylvanus H. WILCOX] was born in Newport [Sullivan County], New Hampshire, 30 April 1835, and lived there until he was thirteen years old, when his parents died, and he went to Massachusetts, living in Boston [Suffolk County] most of the time until he came to Wisconsin. [Assuming the birthdate of Sylvanus H. WILCOX] was married in Eau Claire [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin] to his first wife, Huldah M. HARRINGTON [a maiden name?], who was born near Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin] and died in Eau Claire. They [Sylvanus H. and Huldah M. WILCOX] had two children: Lillian M., and a son who died at the age of eighteen months. On 28 May 1875 he [Sylvanus H. WILCOX] was married to his present wife, Helen M. GRANGER [a maiden name?], a native of New York. They [Sylvanus H. and Helen M. WILCOX] have two children living: Grace P., and Helen, and have lost one child, who died when but an infant.
