ROBERTS, Eau Claire [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin], was born 06 September 1844 in Ashtabula, Ohio [Ashtabula County in Ohio; the City of Ashtabula incorporated 06 April 1891], and resided there until he was four or five years old, when he moved to Michigan, where he remained until 1855, when he located at Reed's Landing [Wabasha County], Minnesota. In 1861 he enlisted, was rejected, and went to Hillsdale [Hillsdale County], Michigan. Leaving there in 1875, he went to Wabasha, Minnesota, and in 1877 came from there to Eau Claire. He has worked as a machinist since the fall of 1861. [To accomplish his move from Minnesota to Wisconsin, Allen P. ROBERTS could have traveled via the Herman Line Steamers, which began business in the spring of 1875, and had two steamers making daily trips between Reed's Landing, Wabasha County, Minnesota, and Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin.
