Charles RICKARD, grocer and boot and shoe manufacturer [Augusta, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin], was born 01 June 1837 in Massena, St. Lawrence County, New York, and lived there until February 1863, when he came to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he resided for two years, and then came to Augusta [Eau Claire County]. Mr. RICKARD had been engaged in blacksmithing for five years since coming to Wisconsin, and also some farming. He engaged in his present business in October 1880, in partnership with his nephew, Harlow E. RICKARD. On 04 July 1861 in Louisville, St. Lawrence County, New York, he [Charles RICKARD] was married to [Miss?] Maria H. KNIP, who was born in Canada. They [Charles and Maria H. RICKARD] have three children living: Lida M., Leonard R., and Pearl, and have lost two children: Bert Charles, who died in 1877, aged twelve years; and one daughter, who died in infancy. Biography of Harlow E. RICKARD (nephew of Charles) Harlow E. RICKARD, grocer and boot and shoe merchant, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, was born 26 May 1858 in Massena, St. Lawrence County, New York. In July 1861 he came to Augusta [located just north of the West Wisconsin Railroad, and on the southern border of Bridge Township (extending a short distance into Bridge Township), Eau Claire County, Wisconsin]. He was employed in the boot and shoe business in the fall of 1872. On 25 December 1879 in Augusta [Eau Claire County, Wisconsin] Mr. [Harlow E.] RICKARD was married Myra A. HOUGHTON [a maiden name?].
