WI BIO - Door Co - ROBERTS, Joseph History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, vol I, pp 263-264 Joseph ROBERTS, proprietor, blacksmith and wagon shop, Forestville [in southern Door County, Wisconsin], was born 02 March 1844 in Wales, England. He came with his parents to America in 1859, and located in Racine [Racine County], Wisconsin. From there they removed in 1860 to Ahnappe [now Algoma, Ahnappe Township, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin], where he assisted his father in farming. Being desirous of making an independent living, Joseph ROBERTS began to learn the trade of blacksmith, and in 1873 returned to Racine and worked one year, thence to Fond du Lac [Fond du Lac County], and in 1876 removed to Forestville [Door County] and opened his present business. [p 263] In July 1877 Mr. [Joseph] ROBERTS was married to Miss Bertha POPPY, of Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin].
