From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 128-131 FRANK J. VENIE. The able manner in which this gentleman has discharged the duties of deputy county clerk speaks eloquently as to his intelligence and faithfulness to the duties of his office. He is a product of Chillicothe, Mo., where he first opened his eyes on the light of day February 27, 1870, his parents being Julius J. and Eugenie (_____) VENIE, the former of whom was born in France, and at the age of twelve years, or in 1857, came to America and settled near Canton, Ohio, where he made his home for some time, after which he came still farther West and settled at Calamus, Dodge County, Wis. Here he was married, his wife being a native of Syracuse, N.Y., and soon after moved to Missouri, but after a short residence there returned to Wisconsin and engaged in tilling the soil in the vicinity of Calamus, where his estate comprises 240 acres of fine farming land. On this farm the subject of this sketch was reared and was initiated into the mysteries of farming by his worthy father, and while learning the details of this work he strengthened his constitution by the outdoor life he led. During this period his education was by no means neglected, and the advantages afforded by the common schools in the vicinity of his rural home were made the most of, after which he attended for two years the Beaver Dam High School and then took a course in Meyers' Commercial College of Milwaukee, from which he graduated. In 1889 he went to Chicago, where he was employed as a bookkeeper in a commission store for two years, at the end of which time he went South, where he spent two months. July 29, 1891, he was appointed deputy registrar of deeds of Dodge County, under G. H. MILLER, and in January 1894, was appointed deputy county clerk, a position he has filled with marked ability. He has always been a Democrat in politics, as is also his father, and like the other members of the family, he is a member of the Catholic Church. He has two brothers and two sisters: George; Albert; Mamie, wife of John MOULTON, of Trenton; and Ida. He is a wide-awake and enterprising young man and has many friends. In 1891 Mr. VENIE purchased the Brown estate (better known as the Old American House) which represents one of the oldest landmarks in the county of Dodge, and was his first speculation in the real estate line, and is now the site of several large buildings, some of which are the best and largest in the city of Juneau.
