From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 153-154 SIDNEY S. TROWBRIDGE. In order to make the occupation of farming profitable, Sidney S. TROWBRIDGE has devoted his entire time and attention to this occupation, has been unsparing in the use of both brain and brawn, and as a result he is now the owner of a fertile and well- improved farm of 120 acres, situated in Chester Township, Dodge County, Wis. He has been a resident of Wisconsin since 1853 and of Dodge County since 1857, but owes his nativity to St. Lawrence County, N.Y., where he was born August 1, 1852. His parents, Samuel and Ann (ROBINSON) TROWBRIDGE, were born in the Green Mountain State, grew to maturity there, and were there united in marriage, after which they moved to Franklin County, N.Y., and from there to St. Lawrence County, where their home continued to be for a number of years. In 1853, upon their removal to Wisconsin, they resided two seasons in Janesville, and in March 1855, took up their residence in Waupun, where Mr. TROWBRIDGE followed the calling of a butcher for three years. He came to the farm on which his son now lives in 1859, at which time there was an old log house on the place and a few acres had been cleared and cultivated. By various purchases he had a farm of 170 acres in time, and by push and energy put it in an excellent state of cultivation and erected thereon substantial improvements. Here the father and mother spent the last years of their lives, the former dying February 2, 1890, at the age of eighty-four years, and the latter August 19, 1888, at the age of eighty-two. Mr. TROWBRIDGE held a number of responsible local positions, was a man of exceptionally upright character and had the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. To himself and wife three sons were given: Harrison, who is a substantial farmer of this county; Edgar, who is a well-to-do farmer of Fond du Lac County, and Sidney S. The latter grew to manhood in Dodge County, and on the farm on which he is now living. He received good common-school advantages, was brought up to a thorough knowledge of farm life on this place, and, after reaching the age of eighteen years, he and his brothers took charge of the place. Sidney S. cared for his father and mother during the last years of their lives. He has actively and successfully tilled this farm now for about twenty years, has remodeled and repaired the house, and has made of it a very desirable place. It is located two and three-quarter miles from Waupun and is a valuable property. November 28, 1876, Mr. TROWBRIDGE was united in the bonds of matrimony to Henrietta DE YOUNG, a native of Wisconsin, who was born and reared in Dodge County, near Beaver Dam, a daughter of Joseph DE YOUNG, one of the pioneers of this section. Two sons and one daughter have blessed this union: Elmer, Lucy and Sherman. The policy of the Republican party has always seemed good in his eyes, and he has given it his support at the polls, but as for himself has never aspired to public office, preferring to give his time and attention to his farm and other business interests. He is one of the representative farmers of the county; is widely and favorably known and has ever been a useful, law-abiding citizen. Submitted by Carol
