From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 206-209 OWEN R. OWENS. This worthy citizen has been a resident of Dodge County, Wis., since 1845, but was born in Carnarvonshire, Wales, October 15, 1834, to Owen and Ann (ROBERTS) OWENS, who emigrated from Wales to America in 1845, and were among the first settlers of Dodge County, Wis. They entered an eighty-acre tract of Government land in Calams Township, but later made a purchase of another eighty acres, and still later of forty acres more. On this excellent farm Mr. OWENS died in 1882, at the age of eighty-four years, but his widow still resides there with a married son. Owen R. OWENS was the second of nine children born to his parents: Edward P. deceased, was the eldest of the family; Ellen (GRIFFITH) the youngest, is also deceased, and Ebenezer is deceased. the rest are yet living. Owen R. grew up in Dodge County, and from there enlisted in Company G, Twenty-third Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in August, 1862, and was in the service until July 1865, and participated in the battles of Arkansas Post and others of less note, but the most of the time was detail duty. After receiving his discharge he returned home, and has since resided on a part of the old homestead, which he purchased of his father. He learned the trade of carpenter before the war, and since that time has followed his trade nearly every summer, but at the same time he has by no means neglected his farm. His place is well improved and his farm is quite valuable. He was married in Detroit, Mich., in July 1865 to Miss Mary Hughes, a native of Wales, but who was reared in Rome, N.Y. In 1874, his wife died, leaving him with one daughter, Agnes. In December 1876, Mr. OWENS was again married, his second wife being Miss Mirian WILLIAMS, a native of Dodge County, Wis., but of Welsh descent. The second union has resulted in the birth of six children: Hannah, Ellen, Mirian, Edward, Margaret, and Ebenezer. Mr. OWENS has always supported the Republican party with the exception of the last few years, when he has aided the Prohibition party. He and his wife are members of the Calvinistic Church and are among the honored first settlers of this section. Submitted by Carol
