From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 192-195 DAVID E. JONES. Among the prosperous farmers of Dodge County, Wis., none deserve more honorable mention than David E. JONES, for he owns a farm of eighty acres which he operates with such good judgment that it yields better crops than many more pretentious and less carefully tilled places. He was born in Portage County, Ohio, December 20, 1837, a son of Ebenezer E. JONES, who came to this country from Wales when in his early manhood and resided successively in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio, his marriage with Miss Margaret EVANS occurring in the city of Cleveland. She was also born in Wales, and after their marriage they removed to Portage County, and after a few years' residence there, moved to Licking County, where Mr. JONES farmed and worked at the cooper's trade for about seven years. About 1845 they removed to Dodge County, Wis., and took up a claim of 160 acres, on which their son now resides. At that time some slight improvements had been made, but as time passed on Mr. JONES instituted many changes which greatly increased the value of the property. He died on this farm in 1873, at sixty-four years of age, his death being much regretted by all who knew him. He was a useful citizen, and discharged the duties of several local positions with marked ability. David E. JONES, his son, has resided in Dodge County since he was eight years of age, and, although he assisted his father in improving the home farm, he secured a good education. He was married in Columbia County, Wis., October 11, 1864, to Miss Catherine M. HUGHES, a native of Wales. She was brought to this country when about ten years old, was principally educated in Lewis County, N.Y., and at the age of fifteen accompanied her father, Hugh R. HUGHES, to Columbia County, Wis. After his marriage, Mr. JONES engaged in farming about one mile from the old homestead, and after successfully tilling this land for about eighteen years, he sold out and bought the old homestead, where he has since resided. He has always been in sympathy with the Republican party, has supported its men and measures at all general elections. He has served as assessor and justice of the peace of his township, and in various other ways he has shown that he is public-spirited and enterprising. He and his wife have three children: Maggie, wife of D. D. JONES, of Brown County; Mary, wife of William DANIEL, a farmer in Fox Lake Township, and Ebenezer E., who is taking a prepatory course in Ripon College. Mr. JONES and his wife are members of the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist church, and are very worthy and influential people. They have seen much of the development of Dodge County during the forty-nine years that they have resided here, and have always been classed among the most substantial and influential citizens of the county.
