HALLOCK, M.D. There is no calling upon earth that demands greater self- sacrifice, unselfishness and devotion than that of the physician, who must needs incur the risk of contracting fatal disease, and who must forego comfort and endure fatigues in the discharge of his duties. Such thoughts are naturally awakened as one contemplates the life and the work of the estimable subject of this sketch, whose labors for the good of humanity have been unceasing since he entered upon the practice of his profession. He was born in Byron, Ogle County, Ill., July 24, 1846, a son of Reuben and Harriet Ann (SPERRY) HALLOCK, who were natives of Sackett's Harbor, N.Y., but who became residents of Illinois in 1845, and in that State passed from life in 1880 and 1991 respectively. Dr. HALLOCK was educated in a seminary at Mount Morris, Ill., after which he took a medical course in the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, but his studies were interrupted by the opening of the great Civil War. April 27, 1863, he enlisted in Company I, Fifteenth Illinois Infantry, and was in the Army of the Mississippi until 1864, when he became a part of Sherman's army. He was captured at Acworth, October 4, 1864, and from October 11, 1864, until April 27, 1865, he was confined in Andersonville Prison, when they were taken to Baldwin and there set free and Dr. HALLOCK at once made his way to Jacksonville. He took part in the siege of Vicksburg, the battles of Champion's Hill, Resaca and Kennesaw Mountain. He was with Sherman in the Atlanta campaign, and being sent back to guard supplies at Acworth, was captured. After the war he completed his medical studies, graduating as an M.D. in 1873, immediately after which he came to Juneau, Wis., and here has since made his home. He was married in November 1871, at Aurora, Ill., to Miss Georgia E., daughter of William and Catherine BRAND, who were of Scotch descent, and she first saw the light of day in Ogle County, Ill. She has borne her husband one daughter: Mabel E. The Doctor is a member of the State Medical Society, the Brainerd Medical Society, and is a member of Solomon Lodge, No. 86, of the A.F. & A.M., in which he is master of the Blue Lodge, and is also a member of Juneau Lodge, No. 7, of the I.O.O.F. He belongs to John A. Ely Post of the G.A.R., of which he has been commander. For the past eighteen years he has been county physician, and as a general medical practitioner he has been remarkably successful, and has all the cases that he can properly look after. He is the second oldest physician in Dodge County in point of practice, and is the present examining surgeon for pensions. At the present time he is filling the office of Mayor of Juneau. His daughter, Mabel E., was married to F. G. WRIGHT, a successful business man of Minneapolis, Minn., June 23, 1894. Submitted by Carol
