From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 197-198 EDWARD DAVIS is a well-known tiller of the soil in Dodge County, Wis., and on his excellent and well-kept farm of 160 acres he raises large crops annually. He was born in the northern part of Wales, January 6, 1842, and is a son of William DAVIS, who was also born in that country and worked at his trade of carpenter and joiner. He was married in the land of his birth to Winnie GRIFFITH, a daughter of John GRIFFITH, and when their son Edward was an infant they emigrated to the United States, first locating near Rome, N.Y., where Mr. DAVIS worked at his trade for four years. In 1846 they came to Dodge County, Wis., being among the first settlers of Fox Lake Township, and there entered a tract of land, in addition to the improving of which Mr. DAVIS worked at his trade. He afterward retired from business, moved to Randolph where he spent the rest of his life, dying in 1881. His widow survived him a number of years and passed away in the fall of 1893. Edward DAVIS was the eldest in a family of three sons and four daughters, as follows: William, is a carpenter and joiner of Racine, Wis.; Eliza, wife of Thomas PRICHARD, lives in Fox Lake; Mary, wife of Ed JONES, lives in Chicago; Winnie, wife of Evan ROBERTS, resides in Randolph, Wis.; Jane became the wife of Judge HUGHES, and died in Racine; John died in Racine, and Edward. The latter grew to manhood in Dodge County, and received the advantages of the common schools. He learned the trade of carpenter-joiner with his father, with whom he continued to make his home until his marriage in Oshkosh, in June 1870, to Miss Jane DAVIS whose sister married his brother John. They were both natives of Wales, and daughters of Daniel DAVIS, who reared his family in Oshkosh. After his marriage Mr. DAVIS located on a farm in Fox Lake Township, and having bought out the other heirs succeeded to the old homestead. Five years later he purchased the farm on which he now resides, adjoining the old homestead, and has made nearly all the improvements on the place. His residence is commodious and handsome, his outbuildings are substantial and he has shown that he is a man of exceptionally shrewd and practical ideas and that his knowledge of farming is extensive. He is public spirited and alive to the issues of the day, and when the State Bank of Fox Lake was organized he became one of the stockholders, and is also a stockholder and vice- president of the Randolph Bank. He has always supported the measures of the Republican party, but of late years has been considerably in sympathy with the Prohibition party. He and his wife are members of the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Church, in which he is a deacon, and at all times he has advocated the good of his section, and has labored for the advancement of mankind. He is well known over a wide territory as a man of correct principles and intelligence, and all who know him respect him. His children are as follows: Daniel E., who resides in Cotter, Iowa; Winnie and Maggie. Submitted by Carol
