From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 119 AARON E. BAKER. In every community some men are known for their upright lives, good sense, moral worth, and the spirit of charity, and these qualities are to be found in Aaron E. BAKER, who is one of the substantial farmers and stockmen of Hustiford Township, Dodge County, Wis. He was born near where he now lives January 9,1855, a son of George and Deborah (VAN VLARICON) BAKER, who were among the early settlers of this section. They entered a large tract of Government land on coming thither, and on this homestead the subject of this sketch was reared, and in early life learned the meaning of hard work. He remained with and assisted his father until he attained manhood, and in the mean time was given the advantages of the common schools, when his services were not required at home. In 1889 he purchased the farm where he now resides, which borders on the north line of the city limits of Beaver Dam, and his estate consists of 225 acres of fine farming land, which, owing to the high state of cultivation in which it is and the many valuable improvements which have been made thereon, is a very desirable property. He pays particular attention to the raising of stock, his specialty being registered Devon cattle. He is the most extensive breeder of this stock in Wisconsin, if not in the Northwest, and the proper care for them necessitates the employment of a number of men. He is also quite extensively engaged in the dairy business, in fact, is very energetic and pushing, and consequently is highly prosperous financially. He exhibited fourteen head of Devon cattle at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, where he was for about three months, and carried off several premiums. Mr. BAKER was married January 17, 1883, to Miss Ella GREENE, a native of Hustiford Township, and daughter of Amos and Maggie (REID) GREENE, who came from New York State to Dodge County, Wis., during the primitive days of this section. To Mr. and Mrs. BAKER five children have been given: Spencer, Amos, Deborah, Lea, and Margaret. In politics Mr. BAKER has always been a stanch Republican. Submitted by Carol
