Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 653 James SCOULAR, furnaceman, Mayville [Williamstown Township (Town 12 North Range 16 East), Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born 29 March 1824 in Sterlingshire, Scotland, where he was educated and learned his business. He came to America in 1850. He [James SCOULAR] lived for two years in Portage [Columbia County], Wisconsin, and was two years in Indiana with the North West Iron Company. He came to Mayville [Dodge County, Wisconsin] and worked for two years for the same company, under J. WHITE, and was then placed in charge of the furnace, which position he held until the Company shut down the works in 1875. In 1854 he [James SCOULAR] married Miss Elizabeth DUNCAN. They [James and Elizabeth (DUNCAN) SCOULAR] have six children: Isabella, Alexander, John, Jennie, George, and William. Mr. SCOULAR is a Republican.
