Rev. Nicholas SCHAAF, pastor of St. Matthew's Catholic Church [Neosho, 
Rubicon Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born in January 1841 in 
Lunenburg, Germany. He came to Wisconsin in 1857, locating at Ashford 
[Ashford Township, a Fond du Lac County township which is adjacent to Dodge 
County], and afterward moved to St. Francis Seminary [in Lake Township, 
Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, south of the city of Milwaukee], where he 
received his clerical education. In 1870 he was ordained by Bishop HENNI at 
Milwaukee, and afterward took charge of his present church]. He also has two 
other missions in Dodge County, and a very large school in connection with 
his church at Neosho.
