WI BIO - Dodge Co - SALISBURY, Arthur History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 728 Arthur SALISBURY, farmer, Section 16 [Hubbard Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], P. O. Hustisford [Hustisford Township, adjacent to and south of Hubbard Township], was born in Oxford, Chenango County, New York, where he spent his early life and was educated. He came to the Town of Hubbard [Dodge County, Territory of Wisconsin] in 1846, and bought eighty acres of good land, heavily timbered with black and white oak, maple, etc. After making improvements he sold this eighty, and spent about fifteen months in Chenango County, New York. Returning in 1854 [Wisconsin had become a State on 29 May 1848], he settled on forty acres of his present farm [in Hubbard Township, Dodge County]. [He may have visited Wisconsin Territory again between 1846 and 1848, since recorded on 01 February 1848 at the Green Bay Land Office is the purchase by Arthur SALISBURY of eighty acres, the east half of the southwest quarter of Section 28, Township 11 North, Range 16 East, which is Hubbard Township, Dodge County.] It was rough, stony, unimproved land, and as a result of years of labor and management, he has this farm of 144 acres improved with good buildings. On 14 April 1846 he [Arthur SALISBURY] married Miss Rhoda MERRILL, of Jamestown, Chautauqua County, New York. They [Arthur and Rhoda (MERRILL) SALISBURY] have three children: (1) William D., (2) Randolph M., and (3) Arthur. Mr. SALISBURY is independent in politics, voting for men and principles. He was the first Superintendent of Schools in the Town of Hubbard [Dodge County, Wisconsin]. He has over 150 grade Merino sheep, a fine drove of Berkshire and Poland hogs, besides horses and cattle, is also devoting considerable land to oats. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
