SABIN, photographer [Beaver Dam, Beaver Dan Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born 17 May 1846 in Walden, Caledonia County, Vermont, and came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1866, locating in Sparta [Sparta Township, Monroe County, Wisconsin]. He learned his trade with Raymond NIAS, and then opened a gallery on his own account in Sparta. In 1876 J. B. SABIN came to Beaver Dam and opened a photographic parlor on Spring Street, which he is now carrying on with good success. J. B. SABIN enlisted in 1865 in Company G, 169th New York Volunteer Infantry, Colonel ALDINE, and was engaged in the following battles: Fort Fisher, North Carolina and battles before Richmond, Virginia, and two or three skirmishes. On 26 January 1879 J. B. SABIN married [his first wife] Etta DERRINGER [a maiden name?]. Etta SABIN died 06 July 1882. On 02 March 1874 J. B. SABIN married to [Miss?] Ella EHINGER [his second wife] of Beaver Dam. J. B. SABIN has two children: Birney, and Mary. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
