WI BIO - Dodge Co - RYDER, F. C. History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 728 F. C. RYDER, farmer, Section 33, P. O. Hustisford [Hustisford Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born 15 August 1824 in Erie County, New York. He was thrown upon the world at an early age, and his younger life was a constant struggle with adversity. In 1845 F. C. RYDER came to Walworth County, Wisconsin, living there as a laborer at $10 and $12 per month for two years. In 1847 he settled in Hustisford on eighty acres of Government land, and lived three years with his brother-in-law, George BAKER. Mr. RYDER worked at clearing up his farm and at thrashing in the summer and fall, and was employed by John HUSTIS as sawyer for two winters. On 01 December 1850 he [F. C. RYDER] married Miss Mary VAN BLARICUM, who was born near Belleville [in the Quinte region of the Province of Ontario], Canada. They lived for some time in a small, one-story shanty, for which he sawed lumber, building it himself. As a result of years of labor and management he has a well-improved farm of 258 acres, several large farms, and a large and well-built frame house, erected in 1866. He has 250 grade Spanish Merino sheep, about twenty native grade cows, Cloud horses, and makes a specialty of Poland-China hogs. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
