WI BIO - Dodge Co - RUDOLF, Alexander History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 763 Alexander RUDOLF, farmer, Sections 30 and 33 [Ashippun Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin, P. O. Alderly [Ashippun Township], was born in 1819 in Baden, Germany. [The 1878 map of Dodge County shows two post offices in Ashippun Township, Alderly (Section 26), and Ashuppun (in both Sections 19 and 30). Mr. RUDOLF's land on Section 33 is closer to the Alderly post office, while his land on Section 30 is closer to the Ashippun post office. Thus Alexander RUFOLF's actual residence must have been located on Section 33, since if it had been on Section 30, one would expect his P. O. address to have been Ashippun. Submitter did not view land purchase records to test this deduction.] He arrived in New York in August 1830, and came to [the Territory of] Wisconsin in 1833, locating at Black River [in unorganized territory until Douglas County created in 1854], where he remained for about eighteen months. Mr. RUDOLF then removed to Ashippun [Ashippun Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], and purchased 160 acres, which is his present homestead. [The nearest land office would have been in Milwaukee.] Mr. RUDOLF is one of the oldest settlers in this [Ashippun] township. He is a successful farmer and a good business man, and raises both stock and grain, also dealing in dairy produce. In October 1847 he [Alexander RUDOLF] married Miss Elizabeth McALAVAY, a native of Ireland. [In October 1847, what became the State of Wisconsin on 29 May 1848 was still contained within the Territory of Wisconsin.] They [Alexander and Elizabeth (McALAVAY] had eleven children, one of whom is dead. In politics Mr. RUDOLF is a Democrat. [Submitter did not seek or view vital and other records to substantiate information given in this biography.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
