WI BIO - Dodge Co - RUDD, John History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 694 John RUDD, farmer, Section 7 [Westford Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], P. O. Randolph, was born in April 1822 in Westmoreland County, England, the son of Anthony and Ann RUDD. At the age of sixteen, he [John RUDD] entered upon an apprenticeship at the blacksmith's trade in his native county. At age twenty-one he removed to Manchester, England, and continued his trade until 1859. In 1852 in Manchester, England, he [John RUDD] married Miss Lucy, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary BENNETT, They [John and Lucy (BENNETT) RUDD] have had three children: (1) John, who died in England; (2) Mary A., who also died in England; and (3) Lucy E. In the spring of 1859 they [John and Lucy (BENNETT) RUDD] emigrated to America and settled in the village of Randolph, Dodge County, Wisconsin [Randolph being a border community in both Westford Township, Dodge County, and Courtland Township, Columbia County, and located on the rail line of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad], where he followed his trade for six years. In 1865, on account of poor health, he gave up the trade, and bought a farm of eighty acres, in Section 7, town of Westford, where he has since farmed.
