WI BIO - Dodge Co - ROTH, Ludwig History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 732 Ludwig ROTH, farmer [Shields Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], P. O. Watertown, was born 22 May 1831 in Baden, Prussia. In 1854 he came to America and settled in Oconomowoc [Waukesha County], Wisconsin, and rented a farm, which he worked for seven years, and in 1861 he bought a farm of forty acres in the town of Watertown, Jefferson County. [Watertown, a border community, is located in both Emmet Township, Dodge County, and in Watertown Township, Jefferson County.] In 1873 he sold that farm, and purchased his present homestead, consisting of sixty acres on Section 23, town [township] of Shields [Dodge County]. On 02 January 1855 he [Ludwig ROTH] married [Miss] Sophia AMES, daughter of John AMES. They [Ludwig and Sophia (AMES) ROTH] have three children, one boy and two girls: (1) Ferdinand, (2) Lena, and (3) Mary.
