Richwood [Shields Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born in December 1821 in Austria. [Richwood is northwest of Watertown, which lies in both Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin. On the 1878 map of Dodge County, Richwood is on the rail line of what the map reads is the LaCrosse Division of the "Milwaukee & St. Paul," but was probably abbreviated for space, that railway being the LaCrosse Division of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul. The majority of railroads in Wisconsin were constructed in the 1850's, the first train running from Milwaukee to Waukesha in 1851.] He served in the Fifth Austrian Artillery for ten years, and came to America in 1853, locating in Dodge County, Wisconsin, where he operates a farm of eighty acres. On 25 February 1852 Frank ROCH married [his first wife] Barbara SHERTZ [a maiden name?]. She [Barbara ROCH] died 09 February 1877, leaving six children. The three girls and three boys [of Frank and Barbara ROCH] are: Charles, Joseph, Matilda, Mary, Frank, and Caroline.
