WI BIO - Dodge Co - RIFENBERGH, John History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 680 John RIFENBERGH, farmer, Section 12 [Le Roy Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], P. O. Brownsville [Byron Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin], was born 11 October 1838 in Huron County, Ohio. When he was about twelve years of age [by calculation, about 1850 or 1851], his parents settled in Le Roy [LeRoy Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Here he worked for several years as a carpenter and joiner. In September 1861 John RIFENBERGH enlisted in Company K, Tenth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and served three years, participating in every battle which that historic regiment fought. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant of his company by Gov. SALOMON. At the expiration of his term of three years service he returned to Le Roy, and in March 1867 bought his farm of eighty acres, and was the architect and builder of his pleasant home. On 21 March 1868 he [John RIFENBERGH] married Miss Olive A. RHODES, who was born 26 February 1842 in St. Lawrence County, New York. They [John and Olive A. (RHODES) RIFENBERGH have three living children: Effie A., Fred L., and Roberta A. Mr. [John] RIFENBERGH is a Republican, and is a member of Oakfield Lodge, No. 158, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.
