WI BIO - Dodge Co - REDDEMAN, August History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1880, p 747 August REDDEMAN, farmer, Section 21 [Elba Township], Dodge County, Wisconsin, P. O. Danville, [Elba Township, Dodge County], was born in 1836 in Germany, son of John and Sophia REDDEMAN. He came to the United States with his parents in the fall of 1857, and settled in the Shields Township, Dodge County. In 1864 his father removed to the Town of Leeds, Columbia County [Wisconsin], where his mother [Sophia REDDEMAN] died. In October 1879 his [August's] father [John REDDEMAN] died at the house of his son [August?]. He [August REDDEMAN] was married [when?] to Louisa PANTZLAFF [a maiden name?], who was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1856, in company with her sister, Wilhelmena [PANTZLAFF?], who died in 1861. Her [Louisa PANTZLAFF's] father died in Germany; her [Louisa's] mother and five children were lost on the steamer "Austria" on 13 [23] September 1858 on the passage to the United States. [The German steamer "Austria" was destroyed by fire in the North Atlantic on 23 September 1858; 491 lives lost.] Mr. [August] REDDEMAN has [August and Louisa REDDEMAN have?] three [living] children: (1) Matilda; (2) Hermina; and (3) August; and lost one child, (4) Herman. He [August REDDEMAN] settled on his present farm in 1876; in 1877 he purchased of John ROBERTS a half interest in the flouring mill at Danville [Elba Township, Dodge County].
