WI BIO - Dodge Co - ALWARD, William, Mrs. History of Dodge County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1880, p 687 Mrs. William ALWARD, Section 6 [Westford Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], P. O. Randolph, is a native of Norfolk, Litchfield County, Connecticut, born 16 January 1800. When eight years old she with parents removed to Cortland County, New York, where in 1820 she married Mr. Ely HUBBARD, who died in a little more than six months after marriage. In 1827 she [then Mrs. Ely HUBBARD] married Mr. William ALWARD, with whom she lived in New York until his death, in 1844. In 1846 with a family of five children she had the resolution to try the wilds of Wisconsin, and to make her home among the pioneers of Dodge County. She is doubtless the only pioneer widow who came to this county to make it her home under such circumstances. She bought a farm of 134 acres in Section 6, Westford, to which her daughter has since added forty acres. She [Mrs. ALWARD] has four children: (1) William W., now of Los Angeles [Los Angeles County], California; (2) Nathaniel P., of Lewis County, Minnesota; (3) Louisa, Mrs. George KNOWLES, of Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin]; and (4) Elizabeth. Mr. [William] ALWARD had two daughters by first marriage: (1) Harriet, deceased; and (2) Mary, now Mrs. BANCROFT, of Romeo, McComb County, Michigan. The family are connected with the Baptist Church.
