WI BIO - Dane Co - TEISBERG, Ole K. Biographical Review of Dane County, WI. Chicago: Biographical Review Pub. Co. 1893, Vol II, pp 334-335 Ole K. TEISBERG, of Dane County, Wisconsin, was born in Tellemarken [Telemark fylke], Norway, 08 December 1840, a son of Knudt and Aase TEISBERG, natives also of the same country [Norway], where their ancestors have lived for many generations. In 1843 the parents located in Waukesha County [still part of Milwaukee County until 31 January 1846], Wisconsin [still the Territory of Wisconsin until 29 May 1848, when WI became a state], having been three weeks in making the trip from New York to Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Territory of Wisconsin]. In 1844 they began agricultural pursuits in Cottage Grove Township [Dane County, Wisconsin Territory], but two years later came to Pleasant Springs [Dane County]. The father died in 1866, and the mother now resides in Minnesota. Ole K. TEISBERG, the third of ten children, received a district school education, his first [p 335] teacher being Mary STIBSON. He remained with his parents until twenty-six years of age [about 1866], and then bought his father's farm of 130 acres on section 15, to which, in 1891, he added eighty acres more. He has made all the improvements on his place, and now raises large crops of tobacco and livestock. Mr. [Ole K.] TEISBERG was engaged in the wagon business in Iowa and northern Minnesota about four years, in company with Gunder EDWARDS. [In the 1870's large numbers of Norwegians immigrated to the United States, and many found employment in tobacco warehouses and wagon factories, both industries contributing significantly to the postwar economy.] He [Ole K. TEISBERG] is a Prohibitionist in his political views; has served as Supervisor of Pleasant Springs Township [Dane County, WI] six terms, as Township Treasurer two terms, and also as District Clerk and Treasurer. He has served as Church Warden of the Lutheran Church about seventeen years. Mr. [Ole K.] TEISBERG was married 01 January 1868, to Anna S. SCOLEN, a native of Pleasant Springs Township, Dane County, Wisconsin, and a sister of Jerome SCOLEN. [See also the Dane County, WI, biography of Jerome SCOLEN.] To this union [of Ole K. and Anna S. (SCOLEN) TEISBERG] has been born seven children: Carl O., died at the age of six months; Annie Louisa, Julia Severena, Caroline, a graduate of the Stoughton [Dane County, WI] Academy; Samuel Henry, and Ella Maria. [Note that only six are named in the text, as it is printed. All pages of this work contain two columns of text separated by a vertical line between the two columns. Submitter believes there should be a comma after "Annie," a name which falls at the right margin of the left column of text. Submitter has noted other places in this work where punctuation at the right margin of a left column of text appears to have been obliterated in printing the line between the two text columns. In this case the addition of a comma after "Annie" appears appropriate, and would make seven children: Carl O., Annie, Louisa, Julia Severena, Caroline, Samuel Henry, and Ella Maria.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
