Co. 1893, Vol II, p 452 Jerome SCOLEN, a farmer of Dane County, Wisconsin, was born in Tallemarken [Telemarken, Telemark fylke], Norway, 01 January 1832, a son of Swain and Eliza (SEVERSON) SCOLEN, also natives of Norway, the father born in 1797, and the mother in 1805. In 1850 they came to America, locating in Dane County, Wisconsin. They were the parents of three children: (1) Jerome, our subject; (2) Mrs. Oliver JOHNSON, and (3) Mrs. O. K. TISBURG. The father died in 1870, and the mother in 1885. Jerome SCOLEN came to Pleasant Springs Township [Dane County, WI] in the spring of 1851, where he bought and improved a farm. Two years later he began learning to make sash, doors and blinds in Janesville [Rock County, WI], remaining there about eight years, and in 1860 took charge of the home farm of 250 acres of choice land. On account of ill health, Mr. SCOLEN rents his place on the shares. In his political views he affiliates with the Republican party, and at one time served as school clerk. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, to which he donated fifty acres of his best land for the erection of an orphan's home. He is a very benevolent gentleman, and has earned an enviable reputation among all classes and nationalities. Jerome SCOLEN was married 01 January 1868, to Rebecca ERICKSON, a native of Southern Norway, and who came to America shortly before marriage. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
