WI BIO - Dane Co - PAPE, Ferdinand Biographical Review of Dane County, WI. Chicago: Biographical Review Pub. Co. 1893, Vol II, pp 613-614 Ferdinand PAPE, a farmer on his widowed mother's place of eighty acres in Springfield Township, Dane County [WI], where he was born, is a son of Frank and Susan (SHEFHOUSEN) PAPE, natives of Germany. The father came to America, also to Wisconsin, in 1849, when a single man. Frank PAPE was twice married, and by his first wife had two sons and three daughters. He was afterward married to the mother of our subject, and they also had five children. The eldest son, Peter, is now a priest in the Catholic Church of Kenosha [Kenosha County, WI], and a sister now makes her home with him. The remainder are still at home. Frank PAPE died on the farm his widow still owns, in May 1884, aged fifty years. He was an honest and hard-working man. He came to this country with little or no means, and being of a kind and confiding nature, was much imposed upon, hence he left his property somewhat encumbered. But by hard work and economy his widow has paid much of the debt left upon the place, and has given her children a [p 614] good education. Ferdinand PAPE is a young man of promise, and like his parents, is industrious and of good moral habits. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
