WI BIO - Dane Co - LINLEY, Henry Biographical Review of Dane County, WI. Chicago: Biographical Review Pub. Co. 1893, Vol I, p 132 Henry LINLEY, a successful business man of Mazomanie, Dane County, WI, was born in Blyth, Nottinghamshire, England, 24 May 1824, a son of John and Isabella (BEIGHTON) LINLEY, also natives of Nottinghamshire. John LINLEY was a gardener and coachman of England. The parents moved to Yorkshire, England, when our subject was eight years of age. In 1844 they came to America, locating in Iowa County, WI, where John LINLEY followed farming. [In 1844 Iowa County, WI, still contained the portion which later became Lafayette County, WI.] Henry LINLEY, the eldest of five children, three sons and one daughter, received only a limited education, and at the age of 10 years began work in a foundry. At the age of 25 years, in 1849, he joined his parents in the U. S., in Iowa County, WI, and was engaged in farming there for thirty-nine years. [Thus the part of Iowa County, WI, where the parents settled in 1844 was not located the portion of Iowa County that became Lafayette County in 1846.] In 1888 Henry LINLEY came to Mazomanie, Dane County, WI, where he has partially retired from active business life. He still owns two sorghum mills and a fine farm. Henry LINLEY was married in Yorkshire, England, 02 Jun 1846, to Sarah BAGNELL, and they have had ten children, nine now living: Isabella, William H., Elizabeth, John, Arthur L., Frank, Gertie, Herman, and May. Henry LINLEY votes with the Republican party, and while in Iowa County, WI, held the office of Township Supervisor. Religiously, he is a member of the Congregational Church. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
