Co. 1893, Vol II, pp 482-483 Levi KITTILSEN, a prominent business man of Dane County, WI, was born in Nummedahl, Norway, 21 Jul 1845, a son of Kittil and Anna (LIE) KITTILSEN, natives of the parish of Flesberg, Nummedahl [Buskerud fylke], Norway. Kittil KITTILSEN, a farmer by occupation, came to American in 1853, and his death occurred from cholera in Green County, WI, in 1854. The mother died in Utica, Dane County, WI, in 1889. They were the parents of ten children, all of whom remained in the old country but Levi and Anne, a daughter. The latter came to America after the removal of the parents. Levi KITTILSEN, the youngest child of the family, was educated in the common schools of Moscow, Iowa County, WI, and Perry, Dane County, WI. He can speak both the Norwegian and English languages with equal fluency. He was reared on his father's large farm, and in 1862 began life for himself in Dane County, with 140 acres of land. He has since added to that place until he now owns 204 acres, all under a fine state of cultivation, and where he is engaged in the [p 483] raising of tobacco. In 1889 he came to Stoughton, Dane County, WI, and for the past two years has been a member of the tobacco firm of Levi Kittilsen & Company. They erected a large brick warehouse, 108 x 37 1/2 feet, with a capacity of 4,000 cases, and a hydraulic elevator. Levi KITTILSEN has been engaged in the raising of tobacco for twenty-two years, and for nineteen years has off and on been a buyer and seller of the same. The firm now have a large trade and one of the finest warehouses in WI. Levi KITTILSEN was married 03 Jul 1865 to Anne O. HOLTON, the first white child born in Christiana Township, Dane County, WI. To this union have been born 10 children, eight now living: Carl, Otto, Andrea, Albert N., Bernard G., Christian Olives, Sophia Louisa, Alma Maria, and Clara Bullette. A son and daughter died in infancy. Levi KITTILSEN votes with the Republican party, and has served as Supervisor and Chairman of his township.
