The History of the Township and Village of Mazomanie, BY WILLIAM KITTLE, MADISON, WIS. STATE JOURNAL PRINTING CO. 1900. CHARLES M. HOWE was born at Woodstock, Vt., August 4, 1828. In 1845 he went to sea and made a voyage around the world. In 1856 he married and came to Rock county, where he lived on a farm for five years. From 1861 to 1867 he kept a grocery store, first in Fulton and then in Stoughton. In 1867 he moved to Mazomanie, where he kept a general store until 1882, when he moved to Mellette, S. D. He owns a farm of 5,000 acres there, and also handles coal and buys wheat. Mrs. Howe died in 1899, and their daughter Fannie in 1890. The son--Frank Howe--lives at Mellette.
