WI BIO - Dane Co - HOFF, Andrew Biographical Review of Dane County, WI. Chicago: Biographical Review Pub. Co. 1893, Vol II, p 554 Andrew HOFF, a general merchant of Mt. Horeb, Dane County, WI, was born in Gudbransdale [the parish of Gudbrandsdalen in Oppland fylke], Norway, 14 Mar 1863, a son of Hans ANDERSON. Both parents still reside in Norway. Andrew was reared to farm life, attended the common schools, and remained with his parents until thirteen years of age. He then worked for a minister for a time, and the following four years was employed in a general merchandise store. In 1882 Andrew HOFF came to America, and after landing in NY came direct to Madison, Dane County, WI, where he was engaged at farm labor for about four months. Andrew HOFF was then employed in a general store in Mt. Horeb for two years; next attended the Northwestern Business College, at Madison, and then purchased a share in the business in which he is now engaged, and subsequently, after a number of changes in partnership, he bought the whole concern. He is still the sole proprietor of the business, and carries a full stock of general merchandise. Andrew HOFF was married in 1887 to Mattie BUCK, a native of this country, but of German parentage. Our subject is a young man of promise in the business interests of the town, is genial, accommodating and trustworthy, and with his knowledge of both English and Norwegian, he has a brilliant prospect for the future.
