HEMSING, a successful business man of Dane County, WI, was born in Cottage Grove Township, Dane County, WI, 30 May 1853, a son of Ole Olson and Rachel (SHELDSTAD) HEMSING, both born and reared in Sorgdon, Norway. They came to America about 1850, settling in WI, and were married in Cottage Grove Township, Dane County, WI. After residing there two years they removed to Pleasant Spring Township [Dane County, WI], later to Mitchell County, IA, and one year afterward returned to their farm in Pleasant Spring Township. The father followed farming in both the old country and America. Ole Olson and Rachel (SHELDSTAD) HEMSING have four living children, one son and three daughters, and have also three children deceased. Ole H. HEMSING, the subject of this sketch, was educated in the district schools of this township, and remained at home until 26 years of age. He then opened a general stock of merchandise and farm machinery at Crookston, Polk County, MN, which he continued one year, and for the next eighteen months was engaged in real estate. He then bought the old homestead on section 28, this township, and began farming. In 1883 he began the tobacco business in Stoughton [Dane County, WI], where he buys for himself, and also for Pittsburg[h], Cincinnati, Chicago, Boston and Milwaukee. His handsome residence was erected in 1888, and contains thirty acres of land. In addition to his other business interests, Mr. HEMSING is also largely interested in real estate and in the raising of horses. Ole H. HEMSING was married on 24 Jun 1879 to Mariah FLONE, a native of Christiana Township, Dane County, WI, and who was educated in the Utica schools. Ole H. and Mariah (FLONE) HEMSING have four children: Obert Romonus, Morris Abrasa, Clara Matilda, and Mabel Galena. Politically Mr. HEMSING affiliates with the Republican party, and religiously is a member of the Lutheran Church. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
