GURNEE, an attorney of Madison, Dane County, WI, was born in Rockland County, NY, 25 Dec 1833, a son of Daniel L. and Abigail GURNEE, also natives of Rockland County, NY. Daniel L. GURNEE was a capitalist. Daniel L. and Abigail GURNEE had two children, daughters, besides John D., the subject of this sketch. John D. GURNEE graduated at Princeton; read law three years at Newburg [Wyoming County], NY, and was admitted to the bar. Coming to Madison, WI, in the spring of 1857, he began the practice of his profession, first associating himself with William H. HASBROOK. In his political views, John D. GURNEE is a Democrat. In 1873 he served his community as a member of the Legislature. In 1863 John D. GURNEE married Miss Madeline N. REYNOLDS, of Madison, WI, a daughter of William R. REYNOLDS. John D. and Madeline N.
