ROBERT GORST was born in Northwich, Lancashire, Eng., in 
1796. He was in Frodsham's store in Liverpool for a number 
of years, and in 1844 came to Gorstville. He was the chief 
founder of the British Temperance Emigration Society. He 
settled on a farm about four miles south of Mazomanie and 
died there April 27, 1863. There were six children, two of 
whom are living: John Gorst, four miles southeast of 
Mazomanie, and Mrs. Harrop, in the village.
