Co. 1893, Vol II, pp 327-328 Eugene EIGHMY, retired, now living in a beautiful home in the city of Madison, Dane County, WI, was born in Catskill [Greene County], NY, in 1834, and came when a mere child to the township of Oakfield, Genesee County, NY, [p 328] with his parents, Jacob and Permelia (DENNIS) EIGHMY. Eugene EIGHMY was educated at Cary Seminary. Jacob EIGHMY was born in NY, and by trade was a harness maker and saddler, but when he located in Genesee County, NY, he engaged a part of his time in agriculture. He was an industrious and worthy citizen, a Whig in politics and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and died when some 70 years of age. Jacob EIGHMY was married in the eastern part of NY to Miss Permelia DENNIS. She was born in NY of good parentage. She died a few years before her husband, and had been a good and worthy woman, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and a kind neighbor and friend. Eugene EIGHMY is the third in a family of eight children, seven of whom are yet living; three are yet in Genesee County, NY, and four are living in Dane County, WI, and all are married and prosperous. Edward EIGHMY became of age after coming to WI, but later returned to NY to marry. He first came to WI and located in Madison, Dane County, in 1855, but in the spring of 1856 he removed to MacFarland, Dunn Township, Dane County, WI. In 1872 he started a general merchandise store, carrying it on with success until 1890, when he retired from business and located in the city of Madison. He still owns some valuable property in the town of Dunn and vicinity of Macfarland. He was a social business man and has many friends there. In 1861 and 1862 Eugene EIGHMY was Treasurer of the town of Dunn, and has held other offices at various times. For eight years he was Postmaster of Macfarland, resigning the position when he came to Madison. Here he built a fine residence on one of the best streets of the city, and is located at 2141 Langdon Street, where he enjoys the comforts of modern life. Eugene EIGHMY married Miss Sarah M. JOHNSON, who was born and reared in Batavia, Genesee County, NY. Her parents were Stephen and Rebecca (PALMER) JOHNSON. Stephen JOHNSON was born in CT and Rebecca PALMER in NY, and died when about 70 years of age. They were highly esteemed people and were known as pioneers of Genesee County, NY. Mrs. EIGHMY was one of a family of three sisters; was educated at Cary Seminary, and is a lady of intellect and fine education and culture. Two children have been born to Eugene and Sarah M. (JOHNSON) EIGHMY. One, Nellie May, died at the age of 22 years. She had been thoroughly educated at Madison, and was a sweet and charming young lady, whose death caused a pall to fall on relatives and friends. The living daughter is Eugenia Belle, educated in this city, a bright and accomplished young lady. In politics Eugene EIGHMY is one of the stanch Republicans, who take an active interest in public affairs without desiring any official recognition. Such men make up the bone and sinew of the party. Our subject is yet in the prime of life, genial and pleasant. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
