Co. 1893, Vol II, p 572 Gunder EDWARDS, a farmer of Dane County, WI, was born in Tallemarken [check this, add fylke], Norway, 02 Jan 1841, a son of Ever and Ingerbert (OLSEN) EDWARDS, also natives of Norway, but of Scotch descent, the great grandfather of our subject having moved to Norway from Scotland. Gunder EDWARDS received a good education in Norway, and was reared to farm life. His father died when he was ten years of age, and eight years later he was induced by his cousin, A. GUNDERSON, to come to America. Gunder EDWARDS located in Burke Township, near Madison, Dane County, WI, and shortly afterward sent for his mother, where she still makes her home. In 1862 Gunder EDWARDS enlisted in Company I, 23rd WI Infantry, and was taken prisoner at LA, carried to Alexandria, LA, and remained there from 03 Nov until 01 Jul. He was then mustered out of service at Mobile, AL. After returning to WI, he was engaged in farming in Madison Township, Dane County, until 1869, and in that year purchased 155 acres on sections 21, 22 and 28. He is engaged in general farming, but raises principally tobacco and livestock. In 1887 Gunder EDWARDS also purchased 220 acres on sections 31 and 32, Christiana Township, Dane County, WI. In his political views he affiliates with the Republican party, and has served as township and school Treasurer, and as Supervisor. Socially he is a member of the G. A. R., and religiously is identified with the Lutheran Church. Gunder EDWARDS was married 01 Jul 1862 to Seba TORGUSON, then of Burke Township, Dane County, WI, but who came from her native Norway to America at the age of five years. Gunder and Seba (TORGUSON) EDWARDS have nine children: Eddie, Mary, Tedor, Alfred, Tilla, Anna, Gabriel, and Mollie. One child, Nellie, died at the age of three years. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
