DORN, one of the most popular members of the County Board of Supervisors, was born in Ephratah, Fulton County, NY, 16 Oct 1837, and his father, Michael M. DORN, was born in Fulton County, NY, 03 Jan 1819, and his father, the grandfather of our subject, was also a native of the same county, having been born when it was a part of Montgomery County, NY. [Montgomery County was created in 1772; Fulton County was formed from part of Montgomery County in 1838; thus the grandfather of the subject was born after 1772, but some years before 1819, the year of birth of the subject's father.] His father, the great grandfather of our subject, was one of 11 brothers, and was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, but his brothers were stanch Tories, and went to Canada, and only two of them, as far as is known, returned to the States. The great grandfather and one of the brothers inherited their father's farm, and lived close together and drew water from the same well, but never became reconciled, as the great grandfather of our subject never forgave his brother for his disloyalty to his native country. The great grandfather died at the age of 97 years. The grandfather of our subject was a farmer, and spent his entire life in his native county. The maiden name of his wife was Maria MILLER, also a native of the same county, who spent her entire life in the place of her birth. The father of our subject was reared on the farm, and continued agricultural pursuits in Fulton County, NY, when he sold his farm in 1850, and bought a hotel in Cedarville, Herkimer County, NY, which he ran for five years, and then kept an hotel in Utica [Oneida County], NY, for one year. In 1856 Michael M. DORN came to WI and engaged in the livery business in Madison, Dane County, WI, where he continued until his death in 1887. The maiden name of the wife of Michael M. DORN was Lucinda SHARER, born at Palatine, Montgomery County, NY. Lucinda (SHARER) DORN died in Madison, Dane County, WI, 25 Jun 1889. Michael M. DORN was a Democrat in politics. Our subject, Frank M. DORN, was in his 19th year when he came to WI with his parents. In 1860 he became interested with his father in business, and has continued in the same calling ever since. Frank M. DORN was married in 1859 to Jane DUDLEY, born in LaPorte, LaPorte County, OH, daughter of Joseph and Mary DUDLEY. Frank M. and Jane (DUDLEY) DORN have had one daughter, Clara L., who married Allen W. PECK, of Chicago. Allen W. and Clara L. (DORN) PECK have one child, Frank W. Frank M. DORN is a Democrat in politics, and served three years as a member of the City Council, and one year as Chief of Police. He is now serving his 10th year as a member of the County Board of Supervisors. He is a member of Monona Lodge, No. 12, Knights of Pythias, and is the Keeper of Records and Seals.
