BLANCHARD, a retired physician of Mazo Manie [Mazomanie], Dane County, WI, was born in Victory Township, Cayuga County, NY, 08 May 1818, a son of Willard and Sallie (PLATT) BLANCHARD, both and reared in Rutland County, VT. Willard was a son of Caleb BLANCHARD, who was a son of John BLANCHARD, who was a son of Theophilus BLANCHARD, son of Moses BLANCHARD, who emigrated from France in 12 Jun 1679, located in RI. The BLANCHARDs are descended from good and notable families. The father, Willard BLANCHARD, was a farmer by occupation, and was a Captain in the War of 1812. In 1818 he moved to Cayuga County, NY, and both he and his wife are now deceased, the mother dying 01 Dec 1843, and the father 23 May 1860, aged 56 and 77 years, respectively. Willard BLANCHARD and his wife were the parents of seven [five?] children, three sons and two daughters, and the former were all practicing physicians. [p 406] The eldest son, O. W., came to WI in 1843, and is now deceased. Caleb S. BLANCHARD, the subject of this sketch, received an academic education in the Victor Academy, which was organized in 1826. He still has an announcement of the school, printed for the term to begin 05 Sep 1842. At the age of 19 years he began the practice of medicine with his brother, O. W. BLANCHARD, and three years afterward entered the Pittsfield Medical College, of Pittsfield, [Berkshire County], MA. In 1843 our subject opened a medical office in Racine [Racine County], WI, but 20 Dec 1848, on account of ill health, he left that city for East Troy [Walworth County], WI, where he followed his profession until again obliged to discontinue practice. On 05 Aug 1862 he was appointed Surgeon of the 22nd WI Volunteer Regiment, but after one year with his command was obliged to tender his resignation. During the following 20 months Dr. Caleb S. BLANCHARD practiced medicine at Bloomfield, [Sonoma County], CA, and in May 1865, returned to East Troy, WI. On 23 May 1890 he came to Mazo Manie, where he has retired from active work of all kinds. Caleb S. BLANCHARD votes with the Republican party, has served as Lieutenant, Corporal, and Colonel in military companies, and as Justice of the Peace and a member of the Board of Supervisors of East Troy. He was elected a member of the Assembly in 1880, and served on three committees; the Penal Committee, Engross Manufacturing Committee, and Medical Committee. He was elected to the office by a majority of 1,200 votes. Socially he was made a member of the Masonic order in 1852, and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1845. Caleb S. BLANCHARD was married 14 Jun 1852 to Susan G. AMES, a native of Genesee County, NY, who died 19 Jan 1860. On 27 Jul 1861 Caleb S. BLANCHARD was united in marriage with Jennette D. PARK, a native of Weston [Windsor County], VT, who at the time her marriage was Principal of the East Troy schools. To the union of Caleb S. and Jennette D. (PARK) BLANCHARD have been born four children: Charles W., who graduated at the Rush Medical College, of Chicago, in 1889, and is now a practicing physician of Clinton [Rock County], WI; Frank P., educated at the Madison schools, is now a druggist of Meskogee [Muskogee], Indian Territory [later Muskogee, Muskogee County, OK]; Stella J., the wife of Dr. SCOTT, of Racine County, WI; and Albert C., attending the Rush Medical College of Chicago, where he will graduate in 1895.
