Vol II, pp 337-338 Adolph BIRRENKOTT, a prominent farmer of Dane County, WI, was born in this county on 07 Jun 1855, a son of Michael and Clara (KALSHAUER) BIRRENKOTT, natives of Kerpen, Prussia. The father was born 07 Sep 1830, a son of Adolph and Margaret BIRRENKOTT, also natives of that country. They came to America about 1852. Michael, the father of our subject, came to this country with his parents, and he and his father first bought 120 acres of land in Dane County, WI, and erected a log house, 14x18 feet, later erected an addition, and remained there until the father's death. Michael BIRRENKOTT was a Democrat in his political views, served as Assessor and Supervisor of his township several years, and religiously was a member of the Catholic church. The mother of our subject [Clara (KALSHAUER) BIRRENKOTT] was born 13 Jul 1830, a daughter of John and Theresa KALSHAUER, who came to this country about the same time as the BIRRENKOTT family, and located in the same locality. Michael BIRRENKOTT died in Dane County, WI, 12 Jan 1874, and his wife on 26 Feb 1884. Adolph, one of 11 children, 8 now living, remained at home with his mother after his father's death until his marriage. He then settled on the old homestead in Dane [p 338] County, later bought out the seven heirs, and now owns 346 acres of fine land, all of which is under a good state of cultivation. Adolph BIRRENKOTT was married 24 Nov 1885 to Miss Anna CONRAD, who was born in Lancaster County, PA, 21 Mar 1866, a daughter of John J. and Kate (KHERHENVOEDER) CONRAD, natives of Germany. They came to America in 1851, settling in Lancaster County, PA, but in 1868 purchased 80 acres in this township. The mother died 25 Apr 1885, and the father still resides in his old home in Mount Joy, PA. Adolph and Anna (CONRAD) BIRRENKOTT have three children: Margaret K., born 01 May 1887; John M., 21 May 1888; and Maria K., 06 Feb 1892. Our subject served as Supervisor of the Township Board two years, and is Chairman at the present time [1892], and was a member of the School Board many years.
