BABCOCK, a farmer of Dane County, WI, was born in Madison County, NY, 10 Aug 1859, a son of Hamden R. and Adelia Donnet (BEBEE) BABCOCK, both born and reared in that county, where they still reside. The family are remarkable for their longevity, the paternal grandfather having lived to the age of 90 years, dying in 1891. The parents of our subject reared a family of three children, two daughters and one son. Nettie, the eldest daughter, is married, and resides in Attica [Wyoming County], NY; Lois is the wife of Professor LONGWORTHY, a professor of the Colgate University at Hamilton [Madison County], NY. Dalph L., the only son, was reared on his father's farm, and was given a common school education, also attending the Colgate Academy and Colgate University. In 1880 he left NY and came West, locating in Albion Township, Dane County, WI, which he has made his permanent abode. Mr. BABCOCK has been a popular, progressive and successful farmer, and has in his charge 212 acres of the fertile loam so characteristic of his adopted township. He raises a variety of crops and also livestock. He is a believer in the McKinley high tariff, is Chairman of the township Board of Supervisors, and has been Side Supervisor for the past seven years in succession. Dalph L. BABCOCK was married 01 Nov 1880, soon after his arrival in Albion Township, to one of its fairest daughters, Miss Martha L. LONGWORTHY, who was born and reared in this township, and was given a collegiate education at Albion, WI, and Rockford, Winnebago County, IL.
